Jose Soto Soto more known as Jose Mercé (his artistic surname supposes an honoring to the years in which he was singer in the choir of the “Basilica of the Mercé”, in his natal city), was born in Jerez in 1955. Great-grandson of Paco Luz and nephew of Manuel Soto, always has breathed flamenco by his four sides. With only 13 years he went to Madrid, where he started accompanying dancers as Carmen Mora, Mario Maya and The Güito, after which Antonio Gades incorporated him into the dancer´s company, the one that crossed Europe and good part of America. Mercé collaborated with Gades between 1973 and 1987, taking part likewise in the movies “Bodas de Sangre” and “Flamencos" of Carlos Saura.

In 1983 he recorded “Verde Junco” together with Tomatito and Enrique de Melchor, and then it followed in 1987 " Caminos Reales del Cante". In 1991 he improved himself with “Hondas Raíces", and three years later, in 1994, he published “Desnudando el alma". Nevertheless, it was in 1998 when his artistic career gave an important draft, when he recorded the album “Del Amanecer“ together with the guitarist Vicente Amigo. That disc offered an image renewed of the art of flamenco that complemented itself in 2000 with "Aire" and later with "Lío" in 2002, one album that the own Mercé defines as “a disc done with the heart", in which he relied on the collaboration, among others, of Enrique de Melchor.

More recently, in 2004, he presented "Confí de Fuá”, an album in which this flamenco singer was showing the whole ostentation of control across a mixture of songs and sing more authentic.
