Omar Faruk
Omar Faruk tekbilek was born and grew in Adana, a city of the south of Turkey where the Islamic culture and the Byzantine were mixed, frontier city, place of meeting of philosophers, artists, actors and personalities of the culture in general. The cultural offer was very big, so many of the big Turkish musicians visited it. His brother Hadji was a flute player and he was the first guide of Faruk. He studied Kaval, a small diatonic flute, but soon he was interested for other instruments. His first teacher was one of his uncles who had a shop of musical instruments. He was going there in the evenings, after the school, and he learned Baglama (Turkish lute of long neck), the complicated Turkish paces, the scales, musical reading and more. With twelve years old, he began to act professionally in some clubs.
In 1988 he knew Brian Keane, nowadays his producer and collaborator, and with him he did his first work worldwide, the sonorous band of the movie "Suleyman Magnificent".
Nowadays he continues his musical researches and Ara Kinkjian collaborates with other musicians, as the laudist and Palestinian violinist Simon Shaheen, the percusionist and composer Michael Askill, the Armenian percusionist Arto Tuncboyaciyan and the Armenian lauidst.
