In the 70s Maria Isabel forms  part of the group Jarcha, whose songs had a great reputation in the "Spain of the Transition". In 1986 she initiates her career in solitarily with the artistic name of Martirio, which is simultaneously name and personage: sheathed in scene among dark sunglasses and a comb, she was one of the most original interpreters of the musical Spanish panorama in the 80s, and songs as  Sevillanas de los Bloques (estoy atacá) was a great success in the  medias. Her music is a bridge between cultures and fuses Spanish couplet, flamenco, bolero, jazz, tango, rock, dance...

Martirio has a considerable path with a sample of quality offers and has been recognized by public and critique. She has been rewarded by numerous prizes, among others: Best Disc of Spanish Song in the Prizes of the Music 2004 together with Chano Domínguez for "Acoplados". Among other public recognitions she has been nominated an adopted child of San Juan of Puerto Rico by decree and in 2004 she received the Golden medal of the Meeting of Andalusia.
